Children eating ice cream, doing gymnastics on sports equipment or dressing up as adults: Images showing children and young people in everyday situations are being misappropriated and sexualized online, sometimes in drastic ways. Technological developments that enable image and video manipulation are exacerbating the problem.
The children's rights organisation Save the Children has now released a guideline calling on schools, kindergartens, associations and other stakeholders to critically review all images depicting children. jugendschutz.net is involved in the guideline as a cooperation partner. As well as providing background information on the topic, the guideline compares risky and less risky motifs using illustrations and offers recommendations, for example on image selection.
The English guideline is available for download.
