On Wednesday, Dec. 17th, 2025 the United Nations General Assembly have agreed on the Outcome Document of the WSIS +20 Review and established a permanent mandate for the Internet Governance Forum.

The outcome document recognizes the access and specific information and technology challenges faced by children, and it states «that the benefits of digitalization are not yet available to many children and young people as a result of inequalities in connectivity, digital literacy, equipment, skills and educational facilities» (para 37)

Member states recognize that children are among the most active users of the Internet and online services and state in para 80: «We remain committed to strengthening legal and policy frameworks to protect the rights of the child in the digital space.»

We are taking this outcome of the WSIS + 20 review process as a huge success but also as an obligation to strengthen our common efforts to children’s right being respected, protected and fulfilled in the digital environment. The annual Internet Governance Forum and our ongoing involvement in the Dynamic Coalition on Children's Rights will continue to provide a platform and basis for professional exchange and joint activities at international level also in the future.
