Brazilian children and young people use the internet daily as a natural adjuvant and entertainment medium. The various types of online activities and modes of Internet use provide children with great opportunities for learning and
personal growth; however, they also present situations of risk that may result in negative or even harmful experiences for users.
How and where do children access the Internet? What are the consequences of this use? What is the relation between the various access devices, such as notebooks, tablets and mobile phones, and privacy in Internet use? What mediation strategies do parents or legal guardians use to help their children browse the Internet safely? In order to understand children’s uses and habits, a survey was launched for the first time in 2012.
Its main objective is to investigate the opportunities and risks associated with Internet use by Brazilian children between the ages of 9 and 16. The results of this survey are summarized in a report, that is available in English and Portuguese language (together in one document).
