The Digital Futures for Children (DFC) centre's remit - to facilitate research for a rights-respecting digital world for children, support an evidence base for advocacy, facilitate dialogue between academics and policymakers, and amplify children’s voices - follows the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s General Comment No. 25 (GC25) on children's rights in relation to the digital environment.
Since the adoption of GC25 in 2021, there has been no systematic assessment of its take up or use around the world, nor of the benefits that this may bring to children’s rights in relation to the digital environment. GC25 encompasses a wide array of issues, actions and intended outcomes: we need to know if they are being realised, and where further encouragement or advocacy is most needed. This DFC research project therefore aims to identify recognition, take up and implementation of GC25, enablers and barriers to implementation, where is evidence available or needed, both to realise the provisions of GC25 and to evaluate whether/how it is effective in bringing about change. We therefore urge professionals in a diverse range of fields working with children's rights in the digital environment to contribute with insight and examples of progress being made as well as to identify what significant obstacles persist.
Contributions are crucial in determining the impact of GC25 and to identify where additional efforts are needed. Until 30 October 2024 the call is open. Please use this link. The form takes 5 to 10 min.
The Digital Futures for Children centre also invite you to partake in their regional expert consultation to share your insights and discuss with other experts in the field. At the consultations DFC will present some initial findings and invite experts to contribute with insights from their contexts.
